January Activity: A Lesson in Lauds
For our January activity, we will review Lauds, also known as Morning Prayer, which will be a daily part of our school life. Lauds is one of the principal hours of the Liturgy of the Hours, the official prayer of the Church. Traditionally offered at daybreak, Lauds sanctifies the beginning of the day by giving thanks to God for the gift of life and the light of a new morning.
During Lauds, we lift our hearts and minds to God through psalms, hymns, Scripture readings, and intercessions. This rhythm of prayer allows us to start each day with purpose, gratitude, and clarity—rooted in the understanding that all of our work, study, and relationships flow from a life of prayer.
Students will learn why the Church prays Lauds, how to participate fully, and what it means to begin each day by dedicating it to God. This practice not only forms habits of devotion but also deepens our sense of community, as we gather each morning to pray together as one.
This event is open to 7th, 8th, and 9th grade students interested in St. Michael the Archangel Chesterton Academy. Students from outside St. Michael School are also welcome—please contact Mr. Henley for arrangements.
