Welcome to the Team, Mrs. Nicole Metzger

Background:

My name is Nicole Metzger and I have been an artist and teacher for over 24 years.  I earned my Bachelor of Fine Arts from Bowling Green State University; majoring in Ceramics and Printmaking, with a minor in Art History.  I received my Teacher Certification in Art Education from the University of Georgia.  I earned my Masters in Liberal Studies from the University of Findlay, with a concentration on Art and Literature.  I also have my Masters of Education in Curriculum, Instruction, and Assessment from Walden University.  As a life-long learner, I am always seeking ways to expand my knowledge and improve my work and relationships.

While living in Bowling Green, I volunteered at The Link, a crisis hotline for northwest Ohio and I worked with Behavioral Connections of Wood County as a residential assistant, helping adults live independently while struggling with mental illness.  I also had the opportunity to study abroad and travel extensively.  These experiences had a huge impact on how I see and interact with the world.  I gained an appreciation for both new experiences and a love for home and community, and desire to make a difference in the world.  This ultimately led me to a career in education.

I have been a member of St. Michael the Archangel parish since moving to Findlay in 2001. All three of my children attended St. Michael School, so it is a real blessing to be able to teach here.  Ada graduated in May 2025 and is currently working as an aide in one of the KR classrooms. She hopes to attend BGSU next fall and major in Marine Biology.  Spencer and Sebastian are both at Findlay High School and keep the family busy with their many sports and activities.

Prior to joining the St. Michael School family, I taught Art for 22 years with Findlay City Schools.  I taught a variety of art classes and grade levels.  I taught at Findlay High School for ten years and taught courses like Art I, II, III, Ceramics, Painting, Drawing, and Advanced Placement Art.  In 2012, still teaching for Findlay City Schools, I joined the staff of Lincoln Elementary and continued to travel the district teaching artists of all age levels and abilities. Being a traveling teacher is challenging, but it did allow me to meet and learn from so many amazing teachers and students.  In my time with Findlay City Schools, I learned so much about teamwork, dedication, hard work, compassion, empathy, friendship, and love.

This is my third year teaching art at St. Michael the Archangel School. I love teaching all the grade levels and watching the students grow as artists, as individuals, and as children in Christ.  I am excited to see what God has planned for each of them and I am honored to be a small part in their journey.  I am delighted to be part of Saint Michael the Archangel Chesterton Academy and looking forward to sharing my passion for art and art history with the students and helping them recognize the connection between beauty, art, and God.
